Shaping Pennsylvania’s future
Now that commencement has been celebrated at our universities across the state, it's a good time to reflect on the significant role our graduates play in shaping Pennsylvania's future.
We take immense pride in the fact that, along with many talented individuals from neighboring states, 90% of our graduates come from Pennsylvania, and 80% will stay here after graduation — bolstering our workforce. It is truly inspiring to see so many students choosing to thrive right here in our commonwealth, with an impressive 62% continuing their careers in Pennsylvania even a full decade after graduation.
When I meet with members of the General Assembly, I often emphasize that supporting our universities is synonymous with supporting Pennsylvania. Our institutions play a vital role in developing the thinkers, creators, and doers that fuel the state’s talent supply.
By leveraging our rich tradition in the liberal arts and aligning our academic programs with the needs of today’s workforce, we help open doors for our graduates with valuable, life-changing opportunities. With the emergence of course sharing, students have enhanced access to a broader array of classes, enriching their educational experience and ensuring they stay on track to achieve their degrees. Through collaboration and resource sharing, we gain insights into the evolving needs of PA’s employers and the qualities they seek in our graduates.
Those graduates are adaptable and resilient. They’ve proven it time and again, especially during the pandemic. Education goes beyond training; it equips students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and creative problem solvers. A degree alone does not dictate success; what truly counts is the high-quality experience our universities provide.
Education is an ongoing journey. We are committed to supporting students as they navigate different paths throughout various stages of life, all with the shared goal of preparing them with the skills necessary for fulfilling and successful futures in Pennsylvania.
As our newest graduates embark on their next adventures, they are poised to lead, innovate, and contribute to Pennsylvania's future. They truly represent a remarkable return on investment for our state!
